The point-and-shoot market over the past 18 months has really produced some impressive new "kids" on the block. Not the least of which is theDMC-ZS3. Having been a previous owner of an FS25, the dmc-zs3 was a bit of a step up for me.
Many are capable of capturing homemade action sequences at 1000fps, and some can shoot 720p video underwater! Now we must admit that some of these innovations are a bit much for the non professionals, but I guess it's sort of like having a car that can hit 150 m.p.h., it's nice to know it's their! With that in mind, we are thrilled with the dmc-zs3. It is the wildly popular "super zoomer" from our good friends at Panasonic.
The dmc-zs3 doesn't have exotic features that are not offered on other high end cameras. It certainly doesn't include "whistles and bells", that most users will never use, just for the sake of media hype.
It's just an excellent, well built camera. It is definitely the kind of camera you want to carry this Christmas, while you preserve those lifetime memories!
The DMC-ZS3 is definitely solidly constructed, even with a plastic body, it exudes a feeling of durability , which is bound to give you confidence in a camera that is bound to to get dropped sooner or later
You definitely get what you pay for, and this baby feels several hundred dollars "solid". The mode dial on top with its knurled edge, for example, gives it that pricey look, and naturally there's the hearty brushed metal ring surrounding the Leica lens. The lens, of course, is the main draw for the camera. It's an impressive 12x set-up, and it is the most functional we've come across in a compact
The DMC-ZS3 starts at an appropriately wide 25mm, and gradually increasing up to 300mm. That's a giant range for this type camera, and, get THIS, the optical stabilization means both ends are able to be used!
The camera's menus are well thought out and exceedingly user friendly. They are very quick to sort out and get through, especially in the "Q.MENU" mode. This allows fast access to all the exposure settings you arrange here. Fun stuff like white balance, ISO, exposure timing, and aspect ratio.
The DMC-ZS3 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor has more than adequate resolution, and top notch image quality. On the whole, we were quite impressed with what this camera produced. True to it's type,it performs best in bright light. The pictures at both ends of that 25mm - 300mm range. were quite crisp and clear.
In conclusion, with the DMC-ZS3, you are going to shell out some cash. No question about it. However, you are also going to get a point and shoot camera, that will keep you interested in your photography for a L-O-O-O-N-G time!
